How Do I Schedule A Ride?

Your Safety NET is a leader in non-emergency medical transportation. From Allergies to Surgery, we are ready to transport you safely to your medical appointments! While many of our requests are covered by Medicaid, our network is capable of handling private transportation requests! If you have your own Health Insurance Plan, you will need to see if you are covered for NEMT under your plan. In some cases, NEMT is provided at no cost to you and you can have as many rides as you need. We operate Monday through Saturday 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Our exclusive medical transportation services cover all medical appointments such as:

  • Doctor's appointments
  • Non-Emergency hospital visits
  • Hospital discharges
  • Kidney dialysis
  • Physical therapy
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Pain management
  • Counseling
  • Dental appointments
  • Eye doctor appointments
  • Prescription and supplies pick-ups
  • And more!

If you are currently using Medicaid as your medical insurance provider, your trips are scheduled through MTM, our transportation management provider. If you are NOT a Medicaid client, you will need to contact your current insurance carrier and inquire if you are covered for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT). For those paying out of pocket, our network handles everything from scheduling to the actual transportation so we can provide our services at a very affordable rate.

Missouri Specific

Providing Specialized Transportation for Missouri.

Your Safety NET began its operations in Missouri during the beautiful Midwest Autumn of 2008. The foundation for transportation in its home state began inside St. Louis City and the surrounding County of St. Louis. As a result of our prudent care and patient services, Your Safety NET has increased its coverage to Jefferson, Franklin, Saint Charles, Madison, Saint Clair, and Monroe counties.

How Do I Request Your Safety Net for a Ride if on Medicaid?

Transportation in Missouri for our Medicaid patients is managed by our transportation broker, MTM. Missouri covers non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), which includes transportation to and from Medicaid covered services for Medicaid recipients. Patients interested in enrolling in the NEMT program will need to contact MTM at (866) 269-5927 and ask for Your Safety NET when scheduling their appointment.

In order to be eligible for NEMT services under Medicaid

Depending on your health plan and your medical situation, Medicaid may entice you to use public transportation, bus tokens, or offer gas reimbursement in order to transport you to your health care appointment. Your specific MO HealthNet Managed Care health plan will try to set you up with a ride that they feel will meet your needs. If you feel that Your Safety NET will best suit your needs, contact us today and we will help!

NEMT must be in your health plan on the day of your appointment. While most plans cover this service, some plan benefits do not. You will need to call your health plan and make sure. You may ride alone, or with one child/parent/guardian and/or an attendant if your child is under 21 and needs to be away from home overnight or needs someone to be with him/her. They will not pay for other children or adults unless specifically authorized.

Have Your Safety Net Come Pick You Up

Once your appointment has been set-up, MTM will be able to schedule you to ride with Your Safety Net. Due to increased demand for our services, MTM may not always be able to schedule you to ride with us. By specifically requesting our services, you are guaranteed priority by both MTM and Your Safety NET.

What types of healthcare services can Your Safety NET take me to?

Your Safety NET will be able to transport you to your appointment given:

  • The appointment is to a service or health care provider in your health plan or that accepts MO HealthNet Fee-for-Service.
  • The appointment is to a health care provider near where you live. If the provider is far away, you may need to say why and get a note from your PCP. There are rules about how far you can use NEMT for travel to a health care appointment.

Some home services already include NEMT. Examples of eligible appointments are:

  • Comprehensive Substance Treatment Abuse and Rehabilitation (CSTAR) services
  • Hospice services
  • Mentally Retarded and Developmental Disability (MRDD) Waiver services
  • Some Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation (CPR) services
  • Adult day health care services
  • Services provided in your home. School districts must supply a ride to a child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) services and IEP medical related services.

The NEMT program can take you to a durable medical equipment (DME) provider only if the DME provider cannot mail or deliver your equipment to you. The NEMT program will take you to a pharmacy. There are some pharmacies will mail or deliver your medicine to you.

How Do I Use the NEMT Program?

Call your health plan at least 72 hours before the day of the appointment or you may not receive NEMT. Some health plans may allow less notice and you may be eligible for an expedited NEMT service if your health care provider grants you an urgent care appointment. You may also qualify for expedited NEMT simply by calling Your Safety NET to find out if they are able to accommodate a short-notice appointment.

Illinois Specific

Expanding Coverage Into Illinois

From the very beginning, Your Safety NET has catered to the residents of Illinois. Current coverage exists in Cahokia, Granite City, Edwardsville, Collinsville, Alton, Wood River, Columbia, Godfrey, Bethalto, and surrounding areas. Whether on Illinois Medicaid or paying out of pocket, Your Safety NET's tradition of excellence has carried across the river and is here to stay.

How Do I Determine If I Am Eligible For A Ride?

While transportation in Illinois is very similar to that of Missouri, there are some differences. Illinois Medicaid will cover non-emergency medical transportation which includes transportation to and from Medicaid covered services for Medicaid recipients. The 3-step process below spells out what is necessary to schedule your non-emergency medical trip if you are under Medicaid.

  1. Review your Illinois Medicaid benefits to determine what types of non-emergency transportation are covered under your Medicaid policy. If you are on a Medicaid managed care plan, All Kids, FamilyCare or Mom & Babies in Illinois, you will need to contact 866-255-5437 or the number listed on your Medicaid card to arrange for non-emergency transportation.

  2. Contact the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services at 800-843-6154 and make them aware that you want Your Safety NET to transport you for your non-emergency medical transportation needs.

  3. In most cases, Your Safety NET will be able to bill Medicaid directly. In some cases, you may have to pay and then submit a claim on your own. If you are required to submit a claim yourself, contact 800-843-6154 to inquire about what exact forms need to be submitted. The exact claim forms may vary depending on your specific Medicaid plan. Completing the form will require you to obtain a provider identification number from the medical transportation company.
